She's Geeky Unplugged: Day 2

This morning I walked into the NCLR meeting facility to the announcement that the building had no power. There was talk of canceling the conference, but everyone who showed up wanted to go ahead. We pulled out two large construction type flashlights to give us a “camp fire” and we had a small gas burner to heat up water for coffee and tea. Everyone pulled together to make the necessary adjustments to the room and bring the session indicators into the lobby which has a glass front. Thus was born a technical conference without technology. It was wonderful! Our own She’s Geeky camping trip.

DojoCon "The State of Cloud Security" Panel

This was a great panel on security in the cloud hosted at DojoCon 2009. Some serious players in the information security field were there, and we got some very unique perspectives.  Four participants included (from left to right) Richard Bejtlich, Director of Incident Response at General Electric, Christopher Hoff, Director of a lot of cloud-related hoohah at Cisco Systems, Matt Watchinski, Director at Sourcefire VRT and Richard P. Goldberg, Esq, speaking for the legal boys.

If you've ever spent more than 10 minutes on the Discovery Channel, you'll know that the, um, "miracle of birth" is less miracle and more placenta. Watching an information security conference take its first squalling breath is another, way less gross, story - one that any event organizer can tell you is preternatural in its own right.
