Apache Foundation's Gianugo Rabellino to Keynote openSUSE Conference

The openSUSE Project is pleased to announce its second confirmed keynote for the first-ever openSUSE Conference. Our closing keynote will be delivered by Gianugo Rabellino, Chief Executive Officer of Sourcesense and member of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). Rabellino serves as Vice President of the Apache XML Project Management Committee, is a committer on several ASF projects including Cocoon, Xindice, and Jackrabbit, as well as mentor of a number of projects currently in development at the ASF Incubator.

Rabellino's keynote, "Open Development in the trenches: a decade at the Apache Software Foundation" will provide a "look behind the scenes" at the Apache Software Foundation's 10 years of open source leadership.

Libre Graphics Metting logo Put down the Macintosh and step away from the Adobe Suite. Open source graphic design software will be alive and well once again in 2010 at the 5th annual Libre Graphics Meeting! We don't know much yet, but we do know that it's on for Brussels, Belgium. That's right, I said Brussels. In Beergium. Sweet.

Calendar: The Con-Techie team is currently looking into a calendar function / custom Joomla module that will interact with our current open source conference database.

It would be really super sweet if we can get our calendar to support multi-day functions, and play nice with Google Maps or OpenStreetMap

It will be several months before calendar functionality appears on the site, but we'll keep you posted. 

Radius Search: Search extension that allows users to find events within a certain distance of their current location.

My Events Module: Menu that allows users to track their added events & event favorites.

Organizing a con or event is hard work, and it takes a group of super-dedicated people to put together a tech convention. Getting all your speakers, volunteers and exhibitors on the same page is much like herding cats. Oh, and then you need attendees to actually show up. The bottom line is that geeks are lazy, disinterested bastards, it's up to you to get them off the console and into your conference hall.
