Announcements and Events
Open wide for your weekly serving of FOSS conference registration announcements. Overseas cons often require a bit of hoop juming and in some cases, hoola hooping to register for (think wire transfers and muddled email notifications) but these ones are totally worth it, so bust out your poodle skirt and start gyrating: MyGOSSCON: Catering to both the public and private sectors, this Malaysia-based government in open source conference will run November 4-6, 2009. MyGOSSCON includes a ton of exciting events like the OpenOffice.org competition (whee!) and the 24h OSS Web Dev contest, in which local student teams compete for the coveted web-devier-than-thou champion belt. And uh, since the conference website starts out, "The Malaysian Public Sector Master Plan is now in the 2nd phase of implementation", maybe someone who's not me should go check that out and, you know, make sure no one's building Death Bots. FOSS Death Bots. FOSSth Bots.

Atlanta LinuxFest Wrap and Review |
Articles

Atlanta LinuxFest came and went with a bang. C-T blogger Andrew Browning took on the crowds armed with nothing but a shitty camera, an awesome haircut, and a healthy appetite for all things FOSS. Last weekend marked the second annual Atlanta LinuxFest, held on September 19th in honor of Software Freedom Day. What better way to promote software freedom than a free gathering of people willing to spend the better part of a day sharing their love and knowledge of Linux?

Women in Open Source: Rikki Kite Talks FOSS, sexism, and pink Blackberries |
Articles
Advocates of open source know that "evangelism" doesn't have anything to do with threatening to throw you into a fiery pit of lava, sans gold rings or extra lives. Rather, "evangelism" is a FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) buzzword that has become synonymous with actively promoting the benefits of open vs. proprietary software, be it through hosting a workshop, authoring a particularly strident readme, or showing your friends just how wobbly your Compiz wobbly windows can be. But women, it seems, have been noticeably light on the ground when it comes to FOSS cheerleading. Until recently, that is.

TC50 Wrap-Up: Highlights and Lowlights of TechCrunch50 2009 |

Or: "Sour Grapes and Puckerings Thereof"
TechCrunch50, web 2.0 startup launching pad and industry conference extraordinaire, closes today, and the entire internet - the part that cares, anyway - sounds like a busily murmuring gaggle of snarky Korean geese. I was hoping to ignore the whole thing on behalf of C-T, but there's so much mutual bloggerbation 2.0 going on right now, I thought, who am I to keep us out of the fray?
